“Best Way” means different things for different people.
For some it will mean Business Class or First Class? Maybe its with a stop over to explore another city along the way. Everyone has their own reasons.
Best for me means the quickest way possible, therefore a direct flight.
I hate having to stop over in Malaysiaa or Brunai. It just adds an extra 5 or so hours onto the journey.
Stepping at the final destination at this point is 16 hours or so since lift off and I am exhausted.
If you are like me and luxury is not a concern and shortest travel time and lowest cost is, I would take a look at JetStar.
The Cons:
EVERYTHING extra costs extra, and everything costs unjustifiably more.
Yes there is not ANYTHING besides your airfare included in the price.
- If you want check in baggage that will be $40 extra
- If you want a meal that will be $25 extra.
The up selling.
Just go through the motions of buying a ticket with JetStar
You need to be very careful as they try and sneak many extras in and make it had to unselect the option.
For example:
- Choosing your seat. This option is selected by default slugging you $8.50 or so and you need to hunt around to unselect this option.
- Insurance, Is also selected by default.
The Pros:
- Express to Thailand 9 hours and you are there.
You get off the plane feeling a lot better then you would if you had been in transit for another 6 hours. You can get to the hotel and manage to go out for a meal instead of immediately needing to get to the hotel and sleep
Example:
Lets go to Thailand in October on the 17th a Saturday
Air Asia:
Cost: $368
Stop Over: Yes, Malaysia
Duration: 17 Hours
Royal Brunei:
Cost: $728.72
Stop Over: Yes, Brunei
Duration: 10Hours 45Minutes
JetStar:
Cost: $299
Stop Over? NO, Direct Flight
Duration: 9Hours 10Minutes
Thai Air:
Cost: $674.72
Stop Over: No, Direct Flight
Duration: 9Hours 30Minutes
Conclusion:
I value to speed at which I can reach my destination. Having to switch planes and add 5 hours onto the journey is not ideal. It make me feel tired and exhausted. I like to get to my destination ASAP and enjoy my holidays.
So far at the prices JetStar offer I have not been ale to find anything comparable. Thai Airways do direct flight but at a considerably higher place.
Air Asia used to be dirt cheap but over the past two years they have consistently been more expensive then JetStar (And they have an annoying stop over in Malaysia)
What is your favorite way to get to Thailand? Do stop overs bother you? Le me know in the comments.
