My Second Trip to Chiang Mai was during the Songkran Festival. It was at the height of the Thai summer, it was hot!
Coming to Chiang Mai for Songrkran is highly recommended. Everybody likes to get involved in this city.
Best areas for water fighting festivities are in and around the old city.
Two areas worth mentioning are Tha Pai Gate and Loi Khro Rd (Where all the bars are)
Here huge clusters of participating Thais and foreigners can be found engaging in the water fighting.

Vipa House วิภาเฮาส์:
This was a great place to stay at. Close to all the action.
However located down a quieter alley, allowing for a good nights sleep.
It is located just off Loi Khro Road
