Over the years I herd Ayutthaya was an old ancient city.
On a previous train trip from Chaing Mai to Bangkok I looked outside the windows and had that “I need to come back here sometime and check it out” feeling.
It’s full name is Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya พระนครศรีอยุธยา.
In 1767, this city got destroyed by the Burmese army.
Today the city is full of ancient rewinds.
Songkran had finished. I caught a train from Chaing Mai and arrived in Ayutthaya in the very early hours of the morning. It was still dark outside. As soon as I stepped off there was a swarm of Tuk Tuk drivers there.
I was taken to a handful of hotels. The Tuk Tuk driver drove up to each and honked his horn, but there was no answer. After about the second hotel I thought to my self. Surely he has done this before, how can he not know they are closed? Finally we arrived at a hotel that responded.
