Keep in mind this is just one of the many ways of traveling from Bangkok to Lampang.
This is how I did it on my last trip. Traveling by bus is by far the cheapest way to travel in Thailand from my experiences. It is about a 600 km 7.5 hour ride.
The average cost of a bus trip to Lampang from here is around ฿600 Bhat. On my last trip I found a service that cost ฿378 Bhat.

Mochit 2 / Northeastern Bus Terminal
Name in Thai: หมอชิต 2 (อาคารผู้โดยสาร)
Make your way down to the Mo Chit bus station. A taxi fare from one of the nearest BTS stations MoChit is around 60 Bhat. Or if you like walking and have time you can just walk across Chatuchak Park. Cross the road and your there.
At the Station
This is one of the three big main bus stations in Thailand. This place is pretty big. You may even have to walk up the stairs or get the lift. Have a look around until you find a sign labeled Lampang or ลำปาง in Thai.

If you are traveling during the holiday period this place can be overflowing with people and even the floor space becomes scarce.
On a Budget
If you are on a budget and I assume you are. I know I always am. Take a look around. you have many options. You can get a cheap regular or a luxury air conditioned bus sometimes with a built in massage and reclining chair.
fares are usually broken up into three classes Class 1, 2 and VIP.
On my last trip I found a fairly basic bus from Bangkok to Lampang for ฿378 Bhat. Do keep in mind you will be sitting in the bus for around a seven and a half hours.
